HI! (drate) it's me, Callum Brazzo, Director at Diamondz School Of Dance reminding you about the importance of staying cool and drinking little and often in this hot summer!
Public service announcement out the way, we're back for another Diamondz Dialogue and this time, I want to discuss with you what Summer looks like for us.
But first, let's review our month.
Some of the Diamondz team supported students through the Bronze Arts Award started with long-term collaborators Rock School Bus (Amber being another one of our Directors by the way!)
Diane, our glorious front-of-house was uplifted in a post well-deserved for the gem of a human that she is and of course, others in similar or the same roles as Diane can easily get overlooked in businesses so I think appreciation is needed everywhere for these public-facing flag-wavers for whatever community mission you represent.
Finally (but not all we did in totality, check our Socials for everything we get up to) but we had the In-House event at which my clothing brand, Aut Couture, was featured as a Sponsor.
I wasn't able to make it in person but I am ecstatic to add value or empower our events in any way I can. But then, isn't that what makes Diamondz?
The isolation of our own fields (Music, dance, yoga) but the togetherness of a Board meeting, an event, a community collaboration for an Award (Bronze Arts/Access 2 Arts etc) or a something like Echoes (inter-generational project across 5 sheltered accommodation community centres)
Because it may seem positive to have like-minded individuals but I believe a core strength of Diamondz is that everyone is different enough from each other to bring fresh perspectives to the table or...studio floor.
The social glue that holds us as one force? Movement.
With poetry, specifically performance poetry, movements amplify the storytelling of the pieces.
In yoga, your body is a temple of mobility, sculpted for stability and yet flexibility in the same human structure.
Music and dance go hand in hand in choreography between mind, body and soul.
I know... What if you are not able to move?
Well, not only is Diamondz a lighthouse of inclusivity, working with individuals as well as integrating them into the whole of something (rehearsals, accessibility at shows etc), but when physical movement is 'limited' then we rely on perhaps the strongest foundation of all.
Feeling.
From student to teacher, Sponsor to steward, parent to Director, the feeling we get on stage, in class, the feeling I personally get when I'm heading to the studio to catch up some work or meeting my fellow Directors at a show or collaborating or chatting with people about dance, that's the most unifying factor of all. It transcends time and space, money and geographical location.
