U Dance - Tru Motion 2022

“True Motion is one of the East Midlands’ six U.Dance performance events. The evening provides insight into the wealth of dance and creativity in the county, as well as offering talented young people an opportunity to showcase their work. A panel of dance-industry experts will put groups forward to One Dance UK, selected groups may progress to the U.Dance 2022 National Youth Dance Festival, hosted in Birmingham.”

A group of performers from Diamondz School of Dance chose to take part in this creative opportunity. The aim of this project was for the students to create their own piece through the use of creative tasks and discussions. After having sessions with different mentors from the dance school, the group decided on a concept called 'hidden' Please see their concept below:

Hidden - The dancers' perspective on body image and mental illness. Lack of understanding may make people feel the need to hide their emotions, but if awareness was raised and communication honoured, they may find strength and acceptance of themselves. Building community.
